Coach Chris Papalia – Summer Camp 2015

Chris Papalia is a teacher, housemaster, and coach at St. Andrew’s College, in Aurora, Ontario. He has taught mathematics and science at the high school level for the last six years, three of which have been in the Durham District School Board at Pickering High School, until his transition to St. Andrew’s College, an all-boys Independent School offering Day and Boarding programming to over 630 students from Grades 5 through 12. He holds a B.A. in Physics from Macalester College, and a B.Ed. from the University of Toronto and is beginning his M.Ed. from U of T in the fall of 2015.

 

Raised in Pickering, Chris played for the Pickering Red Sox until the age of sixteen, where he began playing in the PBLO for head coach Marc Picard’s Team Ontario organization. After graduating as an Ontario Scholar and in the top 5% of his high school class, Chris chose to attend Macalester College, in St. Paul, Minnesota, an NCAA Division III institution on an International Merit Scholarship, where he graduated in 2007 with his degree in Physics. At Macalester, Chris was a four year starter at shortstop, where he put together a strong senior season, hitting .337 and being named to the All – Conference Team as an Honourable Mention. During the summers, Chris played for the Oshawa Junior Legionaires, highlighted with an OBA Elimination championshipand batting .444 in 2005 while winning the Junior league MVP. He also contributed to the Oshawa Dodgers Intercounty Baseball Team during parts of four seasons, from 2004 to 2008.

 

Chris has coached players of all ages since 2003, when he began teaching at camps in Pickering and Minnesota. During his six year teaching career, he coached football, hockey and baseball at high school. For the last three seasons, Chris coached the 1999 AAA Pickering – Ajax Cubs, with fellow Ontario Youth Team coach, Scott Robinson. They finished their three year stint coaching minor baseball by winning back to back AAA OBA Championships in 2013 and 2014. With the Baseball Ontario Youth team, Chris served as a Special Infield and Defensive Strategies Instructor during the 2010 and 2011 season before being a part of the coaching staff for the last three years. Chris is NCCP Baseball trained Competitive Development, and is also a certified NCCP Baseball Facilitator. Chris lives in Aurora, and enjoys staying active by playing tennis, squash and golf with his friends.

Summer Camp

The Baseball Academy’s Summer Camp is its biggest event of the year.  The Camp is split into two groups with boys and girls ages 13 and under training together and boys and girls ages 14 and up training together.  The focus of the younger group is grass roots fundamentals and learning the game from the best in a fun setting. The older group continues with fundamentals and more advanced teaching.
