Curtis was lucky enough to have a very knowledgeable pitching coach in his father Greg Johnson throughout his minor baseball career.  However, it is his work ethic that sets him apart. In 2011 Johnson signed with the West Virginia State Yellow Jackets.  Last year Curtis was used mostly out of the bullpen where he gained valuable experience.

During the 2014 season, you can look for Curtis to take a spot in the starting rotation for the Yellow Jackets who are looking to capture their 18th conference championship under head coach Cal Bailey. In 2015, Curtis looks for some big things as a leader on the Yellow Jackets.

Curtis capped of his final year of University in 2016 with an amazing season as Closer for the Yellow Jackets.  He was a 2016 First Team All-Atlantic Region to go along with being named 2016 All-Conference and 2016 All-Tournament Team.  Curtis finished his 2016 with 22 appearances, 26.1 innings pitched, 2 win and 1 loss, 0.34 ERA, 12 Saves, 35 strikeouts with 1 earned run against him and apponnents hit just .149 against him.
